Jay Stalnacker is The Boulder County Sheriff's Office Fire Management Officer and as such was Incident Commander for the Four Mile Fire. He is a fifteen-year veteran firefighter for local, state, and federal agencies and concluded that part of his career as a Smoke Jumper.

the Front Range
A Preconference Session in Boulder, Colorado April 29, 2011 sponsored by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) Teaching Outside the Box Conference
Much of the Front Range is highly flammable, an area where over-crowded forests, dense human habitation and local weather cycles create a very high risk for destructive wildfires. Naturalists from City of Boulder and Boulder County will team up to provide participants with a broad overview of fire as both a destructive event and important ecological process. Learn why wildfires have become so frequent, and how agencies are managing forests to reduce the risk.
